Worrying about things every once in a while can be useful, especially when planning for future activities such as examinations, travelling or when your wife is pregnant.
However, when the worrying gets to a point where it is difficult to control, excessive and unproductive, it may be declared to be pathological.
The difficulty in controlling the worry is what differentiates the normal type of anxiety to the pathological type of anxiety.
An obsession is a persistent thought that outweighs every other thought.
Controlling anxiety and obsessive thoughts need plenty of patience and hard work.
The following steps can be used to help overcome this millstone:
- Acquiring a healthy outside perspective – when suffering from feelings such as insecurity, fear and helplessness you should seek outside help. Talk to a truste friend and maybe someone who has the traits you seek to acquire. These could be traits such as self reliance, fearlessness and firmness just to name a few. Take time to deliberate on the practical things you need to do in order to get rid of such negative quality traits.
- Taking full responsibility – your mind encompasses the best and the worst of a person. It holds the big promises and at the same time the greatest threats. The mind creates a person’s reality. Overcoming this fact can often feel overwhelming. We at times want to escape responsibility for the situations we find ourselves in in order to escape the truths. Our mind is programmed in such a way it projects blame and judgement upon other people. This way, promises are left unfulfilled.
- Developing a higher vision of life – it is utter drudgery if you took responsibility for all the bad things in your life. The good things are also caused by the same person. You should aim reasonably high when aiming for a certain vision in life.
