Why I Stopped Watching and Reading the News

I’m about a fifth of the way through reading the main Cosmic Ordering report and it’s just reminded me why I stopped watching the news on television and dramatically cut my news intake.

For about the last 3 years I’ve only had a small dose of news – the magazine The Week which takes me about 45 minutes to read and, if it’s “in season”, the UK television show Have I Got News For You.

That’s it.

When I tell people this, they think I’m weird but the negative vibes that accompany so much news are a real drain and negatively affect the law of attraction.

With a few notable exceptions like royal weddings, good news doesn’t sell.

Most of the news is devoted to negative “doom, gloom and destruction” stories. Take a note of the headlines that constantly tickertape at the foot of the screen on all those 24 hour news channels and you’ll soon reach that conclusion.

The trouble is, your subconscious got there well ahead of you.

And because it takes things literally, it decided that negative was the way to go.

I’ve been actively avoiding news for quite a few years now and can honestly say I haven’t missed it.

If something important happens, I’ll find out. Someone will tell me or an oblique reference will get past my defences.

But most reported news is outside the scope of anything any of us could reasonably expect to influence.

An earthquake the other side of the globe is disturbing but no-one I’ve ever met admits coming from Magrathea, so I’m figuring it’s outside our scope to influence that.

Feeling pity and sorrow when we hear bad news is natural. It’s part of human nature. But as we evolved, it wasn’t a semi-permanent state. It only happened occasionally. Not every hour of the day in the way that rolling news happens.

So I took the conscious decision to cut out the vast majority of my news intake and I haven’t looked back.

Cosmic Ordering suggests that you do the same.

Change the channel when news comes on. And actively avoid all those 24 hours news channels.

Their negative influence is just that – a negative influence that will negatively affect your reaction to other events that you’re otherwise doing your best to put a postive “spin” on.

Have fun avoiding news and if you’re really worried about missing it, do like I’ve done and have a 45 minute “catch up” once a week.
